The EU yesterday agreed to permanently
lift economic sanctions on Myanmar.
An arms embargo remains in place, but the move means that last year’s temporary
suspension of sanctions has become
permanent. Meanwhile the US continues the relatively slow process of unwinding
and streamlining its own Burma sanctions.
